Bikram Yoga Books
|
Even though we're not trying to grab your cash, we're still inclined to tell you about these great books, written by Bikram himself, that have super tips to help your practice. Complete with occasional broken english and pics of the man in speedos doing postures that don't look quite right, you just can't go wrong!

Bikram's Beginning Yoga Class
This book features all 26 postures and two breathing exercises in Bikram's brilliant hatha yoga series. Each chapter starts with an entertaining and informative mini-lecture, then continues with instructions for each pose, and a quick list of the benefits associated with each pose.
Bikram Yoga by Bikram Choudhury
Bikram Choudhury shows you the true way to self-improvement and a new love of life in his most recent book. He discusses how to whip your body, mind, and spirit into shape, and will help you combat a variety of afflictions. Bikram also explains how practicing yoga is also a mental and spiritual mission that can help you create a path to true happiness.

I just love October. Not only do I get to spend the month figuring out how I'm going to look like Bikram for Halloween...

... But I love how the crisp weather is conducive to yoga-butt-enhancing denim, knit sweaters, fireplaces and of course hot, sweaty yoga. The trees outside the studio windows get naked, opening up the full scope of clear ocean view from the hot room. A perfect view for your contemplation as you struggle your sweaty little butt off in some of the busiest classes of the year. Sounds like fun to me!
Come get hot with us! ;)

Confessions of a First Time Bikram Yogi
"It is now 110 degrees and 95% humidity. I am now balancing on one leg with the other leg crossed over the other. My arms are intertwined and I am squatting. The last time I was in this position was 44 years ago in the womb, but I'm in this for the long haul. My wife looks slightly weathered dripping sweat and her eyeliner is streaming down her face. Well, "for better or worse" is what we committed to so we press on..."

| Spring is here, and with it comes sunshine (hopefully), flowers, and...visibly exposed body parts. But this year, have no fear! There is still time to get toned, energized, and glowing in time for your spring and summer wardrobe. If you've been on a break, I'll take this chance to invite you back. If you've been coming to class regularly, I encourage you to keep it up! The amazing feeling and glow you get from finishing a Bikram class isn't limited to any particular season! Celebrity Yogi of the Month - NEW!Lady Gaga
When Lady Gaga was in Vancouver earlier last year 2010, her management had contacted a Bikram Yoga studio to standby in case LG wanted to take a private class, according to an insider. In the end, she passed on the opportunity due to her rehearsal schedule but it appears she likes to kick some butt in yoga class. She started in New York and has been practicing for more than 6 years. Check out her note she passed to the owner of Manhattan's Lower East Side studio.
"Tricia, Thank you so much for today. Lately I've been kicking ass in yoga, but I'm excited to embark on an even deeper journey with you. You are such an inspiration. I will be back soon. W more hydration + sleep. Yoga heals me + so do you. Love, Lady Gaga".

Student of the Month: Andy Hoenisch
Andy Hoenisch is our 'lockstar' of the month! I have been bugging Andy for years to lock his knees. But lately, I have not had to say a word, and his knees are working hard in every posture. I know the whole 'locking the knee' thing has been a real challenge for him, so I am so proud that he's taken such a keen interest in improving this area of his practice. In addition to being a dedicated 6am practitioner, he has been an inquisitive and attentive student. THAT deserves some recognition in addition to all the benefits he's created for himself through his practice.
Nice job Andy! You're our first 'Lockstar'!

Student of the Month: Debbie Alexander
As studio owner, Jen is not supposed to have favourites. But she does, and at the top of the list (it's a long list) is Deb Alexander. Deb has been with BYWR since day 1, and she is such a diligent and consistent practitioner that she sets a great example for everyone. She's recently taken on the task of transforming her diet to animal-free, whole foods, and her yoga practice has shone through as a result. She has an excellent wind removing pose, and she always laughs at the teachers jokes, which goes a long way. Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday she helps make the BYWR lobby so much fun all the way up to five minutes before class begins. WE LOVE YOU DEB.

No Sweat Detergent
Quit dragging home that funky sweaty yoga smell!
Its time to try NO SWEAT - a high intensity/low impact formula containing Bio-Blast™.
No Sweat was designed to...
- Blast odor No Sweat eliminates odor caused by bacteria and oil lurking beneath the surface.
- Banish stains The No Sweat formula is just as gentle on regular clothing as it is on your workout gear.
- Protect fabric Workout gear is an investment -- and we expect it to last for more than a couple of intense sweat sessions.
- Preserve fit Too much heat causes clothes to lose shape and elasticity before their time. Good thing No Sweat's unique formula is just as effective in cold water.

BYWR is Going Plastic-Free Starting Feb. 7th
In an ongoing effort to minimize our environmental impact and aid our students in improving their health, we have decided to stop selling beverages in plastic bottles. Instead we will have compostable/biodegradable cups available for purchase as well as stainless steel water bottles that can be filled at our filtered water station.
As soon as we have sold out of our bottled water, Vitamin Water, and aloe juice, BYWR will be plastic-free. In our hopes to accomplish this before February 7th all of the drinks in plastic will be discounted to $2.25.
We highly encourage our students to bring in their own re-usable water bottles. If you don't have one, you can pick up a stainless steel water bottle from us, they're on sale for $15 + tax during the month of February!
The bottled water industry is hazardous in so many ways, and if you'd like to learn more about why we made this decision, please visit www.tappedthemovie.com.

Hot Product of the Month
BYWR Stainless Steel Water Bottles!
Why Stainless Steel?
- They're safe. This sanitary, grade 304 steel won't rust or react with acidic beverages. It does not leach chemicals into water, like plastic does. These water bottles are BPA free, aluminum free, and contain no spray-on chemical liner!
- They're environmentally friendly. Using a steel water bottle reduces the use of plastic bottles. Even though most plastic is recyclable, only about 15% actually gets recycled, the rest ends up in landfills or the ocean.
- They're easy to use and economical. Stainless steel water bottles are dishwasher friendly, durable, and cost effective - you only have to buy one! If you come to yoga 3 times per week, and buy a new water bottle each time, that's $6 per week and $300 per year! Think of all the money you'll save...
BYWR Stainless Steel Water Bottle - $15
Offer valid until February 28th.
